Parley in Parliament (Mock Parliament)
Participants simulate a parliamentary session, engaging in debates, discussions, and decision-making processes to understand the workings of a parliamentary system and enhance their public speaking and critical thinking skills. Registration: Participants must register in advance as individuals or in teams (up to 4 members per team). Topic Announcement: A specific topic or bill will be announced at the beginning of the event. Participants will be assigned roles (e.g.,government, opposition, independent members) related to the topic. Preparation: Participants will have a brief period (e.g., 15-30 minutes) to prepare their arguments and strategies. Mock Session: The mock parliament will be conducted, with each team presenting their viewpoints, followed by debates and voting on the proposed bill or topic.

Rules
  • Conduct: Participants are expected to maintain professionalism and respect during debates. Personal attacks or disrespectful comments will not be tolerated.
  • Speaking Order: The order of speaking will be predetermined, and participants must adhere to it. Each participant will have a limited time (e.g., 3 minutes) to present their arguments.
  • Rebuttals: After initial speeches, participants may engage in rebuttals, with each rebuttal having a time limit (e.g., 1-2 minutes).
  • Voting: At the end of the debate, a vote will be conducted to decide the outcome of the proposed bill. Simple majority rules will apply.

  • In the event of any disputes that may arise during the competition, the decision made by the organizers will be final and binding.

  • Participants found under the influence of cigarettes, alcohol, or narcotics, or using unfair means, regardless of the event they are participating in or the institution they represent, will be prohibited from participating and asked to leave the premises of the organizing institute.
  • Once registered for an event, under no circumstances the registration fees shall be refunded to the participants in case of absence/ disqualification.
Judging Criteria
  • Argument Quality (40%): Clarity, logic, and persuasiveness of the arguments presented.
  • Engagement (30%): Ability to engage and respond to opposing viewpoints effectively.
  • Delivery (20%): Presentation style, confidence, and engagement with the audience.
  • Research and Evidence (10%): Use of factual data and examples to support arguments.
  • A panel of judges with expertise in public speaking or politics will evaluate performances based on the scoring criteria.
